KOMA-Script
is a very useful bundle of classes and packages (german),
for example one can use scrlttr2 package to write letters
satisfying country-specific requirements.

Commutative diagrams can be created with LaTeX in various ways:

I personally prefer the
TikZ and PGF
package which can also be used to generate other high-quality graphics in LaTeX.
